SUPER CONNIE

In the 1950s, the Lockheed Super Constellation was regarded as the ultimate in long-haul transport.

Unfortunately, it only enjoyed a relatively short heyday. In October 1950, the four-engined propeller aircraft took to the skies for the first time, and just ten years later, the first jet aircraft displaced the „Super Connies“ from the parade routes.

The historic airliner

The Super Constellation was the most successful version of a series that had begun in 1943 with the development of the Constellation. Key changes that led to the Super Constellation included a fuselage extension, strengthening of the entire airframe, installation of square cabin windows, modified canopy glazing, increased fuel tank capacity, and the installation of more powerful Wright R-3350-CB1 engines.

Today, no Super Constellation is still in active scheduled service. The last operator of an L-1049 was Aerochago, based in the Caribbean, which operated the model on cargo services between Central America and Florida (Miami) until the early 1990s. Our simulator cockpit is built from one of these last active Super Constellations.

In order for the Super Connie myth to live on, it is essential that our simulator is maintained. Our Connie is constantly maintained by us and kept ready to fly. The many flying hours and the increasing age of the installed components have left their mark. At the same time, the technological possibilities of simulation technology have developed significantly in the meantime.
